Frequently Asked Questions

You got questions? We got answers. Well, some answers.

Who can join?

Do I need to play hockey?

Nope. No hockey experience required. You should have gear though. So, got gear and ready to raise some money for a great cause? Great! Sign up!

No gear? Hmm, can you borrow some gear? Great! Sign up!

What is the minimum or maximum age to participate?

All are welcome!

Note: Participants under age 18 should get permission from a parent or legal guardian.  Participants 18 and older can sign up on their own

Can I still join?

Absolutely! You can join anytime before May 31, 2021.

Can I just donate?

YES! While we’re happy to share more feats, we absolutely accept donations that require no laughs, goofiness or feats. You can donate directly to the event using this link.

Can referees or coaches participate?

Yes!  We welcome all hockey folks.

That said, rules pertaining where you appear in your official referee or coaching gear may be limited by your referee organization.

Please check with your organization for any restrictions.  If nothing else, you are always welcome to join us in player or goalie gear!

Can we join as a family?

Families supporting families at the House? Absolutely, YES! The more, the merrier!

What gear do I need?

How much hockey gear should I wear?

All your gear. Everything from helmet, shoulder pads (or chest protector), gloves, pants, to shin guards (or leg pads) and stick.

Do I need to wear skates?

Footwear is the exception. This is completely up to you.  Some feats will be easier with skates, some will be easier with shoes.  It’s up to you.

Do I have to use my own gear?

How you get gear is up to you. You can borrow a friend’s gear, use this as a reason to upgrade your gear, etc. It’s up to you.

Can I participate if I have NO hockey gear?

Yes, you can absolutely still participate.  Wear something hockey related. Maybe something with the logo of your favorite hockey team while you participate.

Video guidelines

What to post

  1. Make sure your activity is family friendly.

  2. Have your video show you from head to toe (ideally in full “gear”).

  3. If possible, make sure your video is at least 1080x960 resolution.

  4. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite hockey team's jersey or other team apparel.

  5. Avoid background noise where possible.

  6. Respect music based on appropriate licensing.

  7. Choose a simple background so we can see YOU in action.

  8. Stay safe. Please respect all local COVID-19 guidelines. If applicable and when necessary, maintain social distance and/or wear a mask.

Where to post

Post your video on your social media account. Add the hashtag #RMHC2021HC.  Make sure to link back to your fundraising page in the description or comments.

You can also post or share your videos on the Hockey Challenge Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/rmhchockeychallenge and use the hashtag #RMHC2021HC

Where can I film?

You can film the videos wherever you feel comfortable. As with anything you post on social media, we recommend you only include things in the video you’re willing to let the rest of the world see. :)

We do recommend you wear a mask and maintain distance from others as appropriate. For more information check out CDC guidelines on wearing a mask and maintaining physical distance.

Can I film at home?

Yes! You can definitely film from the comfort of your own home, or wherever will be best to accomplish your feat.

Do I need to be on ice?

Nope. Just be in gear.

If you prefer to be on-ice, and there is a rink near you that allows you to do your activity, that works. If you prefer to be off-ice, that works too. Though… it would probably be more entertaining outside of the ice rink. :)
