Fundraise

Donors can donate to the overall event, or they can donate to support more feats from players.  Players agree to post videos of entertaining “feats” to entice donors to donate. The more we raise, the sillier the feats.

Hockey team members can either ask their network to donate to the event or they can join with a participant page and engage in the activities and feats—all with the hope to generate more donations.

100% of every dollar you raise goes to Ronald McDonald House CharitiesⓇ of Western Washington & Alaska (RMHC)

Join us in the activities and “feats” of the Hockey Challenge virtual event

  1. Create a personal fundraising page (“participant page”) here. If you have ANY questions about how to set up a page, let us know!

  2. Set your fundraising goal amount

  3. Figure out how much you will raise by each checkpoint. For example: Since there are four (4) checkpoints, one option is to divide your total goal amount by 4.

  4. Decide what “feat” you will do at each checkpoint OR what you will do when you reach each of your fundraising goals (you might want multiple fundraising goals within each checkpoints!)

  5. Post your goals and activities on your personal participant page

  6. At each checkpoint - Post a video of yourself doing the activity for each of your fundraising goals

  7. Make sure to include a link to YOUR participant page AND hashtag #RMHC2021HC in the description of your video

How do I reach out for donations?

Simply encourage your network to donate here OR on your player page.

Make a video explaining what you’re doing. Post on social media, send emails or call. Choose the way to reach out that works for you!  Donors can be anyone - friends, family, co-workers, teammates.

Make sure to include a link to your participant page. Bonus if you can also include links to any videos you’ve already made.

What should I include when I reach out?

Include a photo to catch attention.

Describe why this is personally important to you.

Include a donation amount as well as an overall fundraising goal by each deadline/checkpoint. Post updates often.

Post or directly send an email to say thank you to everyone who donates.  You can also include any or all of this on your fundraising page!

Is it okay to support the event WITHOUT signing up?

ABSOLUTELY! We always welcome support and love for the House! You can donate directly OR simply encourage your network to donate here. The more we raise, the more feats we perform!

More fundraising questions?

When can I start?

Start anytime.

Keep in mind that the first checkpoint for posting videos is May 1, 2021 and that winners will be selected based on funds raised by May 31.

Can I donate?

YES!  You can absolutely donate.  You can donate on the event page, or your individual participant page.

Can I donate on another person’s page?

YES!  You can absolutely donate on anyone’s participant page.  It’s always fun to see your buddies try new activities!

Note that if you donate on your friend’s page, your friend will get the fundraising credit and not you.

Is there a minimum amount we should raise?

Every little bit helps.  You decide how much you feel comfortable raising.  Also decide for yourself, how much you want people to donate before you start taking videos of you in your hockey gear.  :D

What happens if I don’t meet my fundraising goal?

Keep trying! Reach out to your network to let them know how close you are to the goal--and that your personal deadline to meet that goal is.

Can I add more fundraising goals (and offer to do more activities)?

Of course! You should have at least four (4) fundraising goals on your original post - one for each checkpoint. You can always have more than four.

After you post your initial round of fundraising goals, you can always add more (incremental) goals.

Example: If you had a goal of raising $100 by the first checkpoint, and a goal at $200 by the next checkpoint, you could always decide to add an extra goal to raise $150 and so extra activities for that goal.

If adding more goals (and activities) within each checkpoint makes it easier for you to reach out to your friends and family, go for it!

When do I need to raise the money?

You decide what your total fundraising goal is, and split it into four fundraising checkpoints.

Work to raise funds by each checkpoint during the competition:

  • May 1 - Feats of Strength

  • May 14 - Feats of Art

  • May 21 - Feats of Exploration

  • May 31 - Choose your own activity

You decide how much you think you can raise by each checkpoint. Post videos by each checkpoint based on your fundraising.

See our checkpoint calendar for more details.

What happens if I don’t raise my goal amount by the checkpoint?

Keep trying! Each checkpoint is more of a guideline than a rule.

We’re primarily using these dates to group feats together. That way, we can create highlight videos to showcase the great work YOU are doing to support the families at RMHC!

Reach out to your network to let them know how close you are to the goal--and when your personal deadline to meet that goal is.
